Celebrating our 60th anniversaryBack in 1966, a small group of agricultural journalists decided the bush deserved a voice of its own; a place where the stories of the paddock, the shearing shed, and the saleyards could sit alongside the biggest issues of the day. They founded this club to strengthen the links and understanding between the rural sector and the wider Australian community, and sixty years on, that mission hasn't budged. Times may have changed, but the need for rural and regional stories to be told has not. The Club has grown from those first Farm Writers and Broadcasters gatherings into the oldest rural press club in the country, and in July 2026 we celebrated its 60th anniversary with a gala event in Sydney. Almost 300 people joined us to recognise the rich traditions of the Farm Writers’ and Broadcasters’ Society, the Farm Writers’ Association of New South Wales and, now the New South Wales Rural Press Club. Our guest speakers were 2025 AgriFutures Rural Woman of the Year and founder of sHedway, Carol Mudford, and the editorial team at the Betoota Advocate, Errol Parker and Clancy Overell.
