It’s been a rocky road for investors and traders these past few months, navigating on-again, off-again tariffs and economic uncertainty coming from the United States. From films to fishing rods, it seems nothing will be spared from tariffs.
With the post-election dust settling, Australia can now formally commence negotiations to ensure the best deal possible; in the meantime farmers and other industries face ongoing uncertainty.
The Hon. Andrew Robb AO is one of Australian agriculture’s fiercest and longest-standing free trade advocates, and will join us later this month to unpack the opportunities, and risks, for Australia as we stare into these trade headwinds.
With deep experience as a former Australian trade and investment minister, and consultant across Asia, Andrew is excellently placed to explain how this might all play out and what it could mean for the agriculture sector.
As the minister for trade, tourism and investment in the Abbott and Turnbull governments, Andrew was responsible for negotiating and signing free trade agreements with China, South Korea and Japan, and was a leading advocate for the Trans-Pacific Partnership, the canary in the regional free trade coal mine scuttled by the 2016 US presidential election. He's also a former chief executive of the Cattle Council of Australia and then the National Farmers’ Federation, and is now a consultant on trade and investment.

Agribuzz is a smart casual event providing professional networking and development opportunities in a relaxed atmosphere.
It provides the opportunity for our members and friends to exchange business intelligence and ideas over drinks and canapés, enjoy a brief presentation, and mingle with their peers. Those establishing their careers can talk to agribusiness leaders over a drink while those on the look-out for talent can meet aspiring leaders-in-the-making.
Our guest speaker, Jaimie Lovell, will share some 'sliding door' career moments, on her way to being appointed Director of Government Relations and Industry Affairs at Woolworths in March 2023.
Prior to this, Jaimie spent five and a half years at Westpac Group as the Head of Government Affairs and Public Policy, Head of Reputation Strategy, and successful stints in broader Government Affairs roles.
Jaimie has significant experience leading teams in both the public and private sectors. She has spent much of her career managing external engagement and public policy positioning for political leaders and leaders of organisations.
Jaimie has strong relationships with government and industry bodies, having held a number of senior leadership and advisory roles with NSW Farmers Association, liaising with the banking sector and as a Ministerial Advisor covering a broad infrastructure portfolio. In addition to her corporate, industry and government experience, Jaimie holds a Ph.D. from the University of Sydney and is a graduate of the AICD.
This is the first Agribuzz hosted by Norton Rose Fulbright Australia and we are grateful for their hospitality.
