Australian farming’s global voice – defending our farmers on the world stage

Friday 31 May 2024

12:00 for 12:30pm

What conversations are happening overseas about Australian agriculture? What are our markets expecting - now and into the future - when it comes to climate targets, animal welfare and trading conditions?

Su McCluskey is the first Special Representative for Australian Agriculture, appointed by government but with a farmer’s voice. Her role is to represent Australian agribusiness, to counter prescriptive approaches to agriculture that undermine a country’s sovereignty and right to farm in ways suitable to their own environment, biosecurity and economic considerations.

Su will share her observations on the expectations and perceptions around brand Australia, and the opportunities and headwinds she sees ahead for our agricultural exports.

As a beef cattle farmer at Yass, NSW, she knows about the practicalities of farming and the care that each producer puts into their lands, and can share these messages with our trading partners to demonstrate Australia’s credentials to maintain market access. She also brings insights back to Australia to equip the industry with the knowledge to continue leading the way on climate-smart, sustainable agriculture.

Su is also a Director of Australian Unity, LiveCorp and the Australasian Pork Research Institute. She has been the CEO of the Regional Australia Institute and the Council of Rural Research and Development Corporations, and the Executive Director of the Office of Best Practice Regulation. She was named the Westpac/Australian Financial Review Regional Women of Influence in 2013 and received the Women in Agribusiness award in 2014 for outstanding contribution to policy development.

Bookings for this lunch will close on 27 May 2024. Please advise of any dietary requirements at the time of booking.
