Fuelling regional Australia

Monday 21 September 2026

12:00 for 12:30pm

Conflict across the globe continues to disrupt regional Australia - at the bowser, in freight costs and throughout the supply chain.

From fertiliser and chemicals to diesel and transport, the seemingly endless war in the Middle East highlights why Australia must continue to strengthen its resilience against global disruptions. While fuel prices have stabilised and supply chains appear more secure than they did six months ago, the question is no longer whether fuel security matters, but how Australia can better protect its farmers, businesses and regional communities from the next global shock.

Join us for our September lunch as we hear from Matt Halliday, CEO of Ampol, on the future of Australia's fuel security and what it means for agriculture.

Matt will explore the policy choices facing governments, the role of industry in strengthening sovereign fuel capability, and how Australia's $100 billion agriculture sector can be better insulated from future disruptions.

He was appointed Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer a year later. Prior to that, Matt enjoyed a successful career with Rio Tinto spanning 20 years, where he held senior finance and commercial roles across several divisions and geographies.

Matt is a Chartered Accountant and holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Western Australia and an MBA from London Business School.

Bookings for this lunch will close on Wednesday, 16 September 2026. Corporate members may book unlimited guests at the member price. Other members may book one guest at the member price. Please advise of any dietary requirements at the time of booking.
